Weekly Update

1/14/19

Hello Everyone!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Be sure to bundle up. It's COLD out there!

As we move through January, we will be completing our midyear testing cycle. Students will be taking IReady testing in Reading and Math. Scores will compared to baseline testing which was completed in October. This online tool will give me scores almost instantly and gives me an idea how long students took to answer questions. Students will also receive Midyear Benchmark DIBELS testing on Friday. This assessment will look at students oral reading fluency progress.

A note on Reading Logs- please be diligent about completing reading logs. The completion rate has slipped a bit since the start of the year and I just want to emphasize how important time with text is. This can include being read to or reading themselves. I have several books available for loan if needed and the library if full of "juicy stories".

In Science we have been studying life science and ecosystems. We have talked about the oxygen/carbon dioxide cycle and also food chains and webs. In SS we are on " the road to the Revolution". We have looked at the events leading up to the American Revolution. Lots to learn about!!

In Math- we have been emphasizing the four main operations of numbers- adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. We also continue to practice time and money.

On Friday, I will be absent from school. I will be attending MCAS-Alt training in Springfield for those students who will be taking the MCAS-Alt Portfolio.

As always if you ever have any issues or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Best-
Mrs. Foley
